As a result of very successful and sold-out tours in 2009/2010, The Swedish Trade Council and the Canadian Urban Institute, in association with the Embassy of Sweden in Ottawa and Embassy of Canada in Stockholm, are planning a Study Tour to Sweden related to sustainable urban planning during 2011.

With content and examples from across Sweden, and opportunities for interactive participation and discussion with sustainability experts in the government as well as the private sector, this will truly be a comprehensive international learning experience. As with the previous study tours, we expect participation from across Canada, and all Canadian companies, organizations and municipalities are welcome to attend!
BR>Visit Sweden’s top sustainable communities such as Hammarby Sjöstad in Stockholm, Västra Hamnen in Malmö and Älvstranden in Gothenburg. Meet with community leaders and companies involved in building sustainable cities. Apply these concepts to Canadian cities for a “made in Canada” approach to sustainable city-building, including for example:

  • Passive Low Energy Housing
  • Electrical Vehicles
  • District Energy
  • Waste to Energy, Biogas, Underground waste collection
  • Brownfield development
  • Neighborhood revitalization
  • Community Involvement, Government legislation and incentives

Testimonials

“This particular tour opened my eyes to community infrastructure advancements in sustainable design for which Sweden seems to have a 20 year head start over North America. We must learn from the Swedes.
”Peter Busby, Architect and Director, Busby Perkins+Will, Vancouver, British Columbia

“Thank you so much for organizing a first class tour of Sweden, and its leadership on waste, energy and sustainability. I learned an awful lot, and three of us did quite a successful radio interview on Saturday as a result”
Pamela Goldsmith-Jones, Mayor, District of West Vancouver, British Columbia.
