From UN-HABITAT's press release:

The southern Italian city of Naples has offered to host the sixth session of the World Urban Forum. Scheduled for the first week of September 2012, the theme of the Forum will be The Urban Future

"We look forward to working with UN-HABITAT and other partners to make the next World Urban Forum even more successful than the previous ones," he said.

UN-HABITAT Executive Director, Dr. Joan Clos thanked the Government of Italy and the Naples municipality for agreeing to host the event, adding that the ancient city globally renowned for its history of art and culture was a "fantastic" city that had many lessons to offer to the world in terms of urbanization.

"The Forum has become the preeminent conference on all things urban. People come together at these events to exchange notes and learn from each other about the problems and opportunities offered by urbanization," Dr. Clos said.

Dr. Clos and Mr. Oddati were speaking on the sidelines of the twenty-third session of the UN-HABITAT Governing Council in Nairobi.

The World Urban Forum was established by the United Nations to examine one of the most pressing problems facing the world today: rapid urbanization and its impact on communities, cities, economies, climate change and policies.

In the space of a few short years, the Forum has turned into the world's premier conference on cities. Since the first meeting in Nairobi, Kenya in 2002, the Forum has grown in size and stature as it travelled to Barcelona in 2004, Vancouver 2006, Nanjing in 2008 and Rio de Janeiro in 2010.

The Forum is one of the most open and inclusive gatherings of its kind on the international stage. It brings together government leaders, ministers, mayors, diplomats, members of national, regional and international associations of local governments, non-governmental and community organizations, professionals, academics, grassroots women's organizations, youth and slum dwellers groups as partners working for better cities.

Date: 20 - 22 June 2012

The Swedish Trade Council will present SymbioCity and participate with activities at Rio+20 - United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, June 20-22.

The objective of the Conference is to secure renewed political commitment for sustainable development, assess the progress to date and the remaining gaps in the implementation of the outcomes of the major summits on sustainable development, and address new and emerging challenges

The Conference will focus on two themes: (a) a green economy in the context of sustainable development and poverty eradication; and (b) the institutional framework for sustainable development.

Rio+20 will be one of the most important global meetings on sustainable development in our time. At Rio, our vision must be clear: a sustainable green economy that protects the health of the environment while supporting achievement of the Millennium Development Goals through growth in income, decent work and poverty eradication.

Swedish pavilion: Greenbuild 2011

May 9 2011

Greenbuild International Conference and Expo is the World’s largest expo and conference dedicated to green building (www.greenbuildexpo.org). The event is arranged by the U.S. Green Building Council, the organization behind certification system LEED, together with the Canadian Green Building Council. Greenbuild is a great marketing occasion for almost any company in green construction, from architects and material suppliers to renewable technology companies. This year we will put special focus on district energy and green energy solutions for buildings.

Greenbuild comes to Toronto!
This year Greenbuild will be held in Toronto, Canada, and it is the first time that the expo is arranged outside the U.S. The City of Toronto is a leader in the North American market when it comes to implementing new green technologies and is continuously looking to improve its sustainability, and several projects in the city already collaborate with Swedish companies. The U.S. market is also under ongoing rapid change and the green building sector increased by 50 percent from 2008 to 2010 and is currently valued to 63 billion USD. That number is expected to double by 2015.

Most important event of the year
The expo and conference is the most important event within green building in North America , and in 2010 the exhibition had 28 000 visitors and more than 1000 exhibitors. Last year participants in the Swedish delegation visited Chicago either in a sales or market intelligence purpose. Based on the success of that event there will be a new delegation going to Toronto headed by the Swedish Energy Agency and the Swedish Trade Council.

At Greenbuild in Toronto the Swedish Energy Agency and the Swedish Trade Council offer:

  • Swedish pavilion in connection with the Nordic pavilion at a central location. Participating companies can use the pavilion as a marketing and meeting area, as well as to present company and product information
  • Events and seminars in the pavilion. Participating companies also have the possibility to arrange seminars
  • Evening seminar with matchmaking
  • Assistance to set-up one-to-one meetings with potential partners, industry experts or other industry specialists can be offered
  • Welcome dinner
  • Accommodation in Toronto from October 4-7
  • Exhibit hall tickets October 5-6

Registration and pricing
The Swedish delegation and pavilion at Greenbuild is patly financed by the Swedish Energy Agency (Energimyndigheten). Participation is limited and will be available on a first come, first serve basis.

  • Participation fee is 15 000 SEK per person for companies with fewer than 50 employees and a turnover of less than 10 Million EURO.
  • Participation fee is 25 000 SEK per person for companies larger than above mentioned, and for non-profit organizations/NGOs
  • A full conference ticket that includes conference access in addition to the expo can be added by paying an additional fee of 5800 SEK per person

Deadline to register is Wednesday, May 18th.
Welcome to Greenbuild in Toronto!
